CoMETA: Automating Building Management for the Future
We recently spoke with Fabio Irrera, Business Development Manager at FAAC Technologies, on CoMETA solution and how it integrates Industry 4.0 with the next-level.
First of all, what is Transition 5.0?
Transition 5.0 is focused on implementing an automated, interconnected, and energy-efficient approach. EU directives and national incentives have accelerated this shift, emphasizing automation, digitization, security, and sustainability. FAAC Technologies, a frontrunner in these areas, offers cutting-edge solutions that address these needs, particularly through its subsidiary, CoMETA SPA.
Can you explain a bit more about your company’s role and CoMETA?
FAAC is a global leader in automation, access control and security, consistently at the forefront of technological innovation in building and security management. Since acquiring CoMETA in 2021, FAAC has further strengthened its portfolio of critical security and automation systems. CoMETA’s solutions are specifically designed to meet the complex needs of environments like airports, where safety, security, and efficiency are paramount.
CoMETA specializes in security solutions that seamlessly integrate with Industry 4.0 technologies. Our product range includes armored doors, interlocking systems, biometric access controls, and advanced monitoring systems. These systems not only ensure physical and logical security but also enhance operational efficiency through full interconnectivity with supervision and telecontrol platforms.
How do you see the fit with airports?
The CoMETA Security System is a key solution in FAAC’s portfolio, an integrated system designed to manage building operations autonomously or in coordination with a centralized supervisory system. At the core of this solution is the Co580 control unit, enabling real-time diagnostics, remote management, and a high level of automation. This technology is perfectly suited for environments like airports, where secure access management and real-time monitoring are critical.
Airports, with their high traffic volumes and stringent security requirements, are ideal environments for the CoMETA system. The system combines secure access control—using features such as metal detectors, biometric verification, and emergency protocols—with automated building management, offering centralized control, remote monitoring, and advanced diagnostics.
Can you explain in a bit more detail what the system provides?
Certainly. There are four key elements that illustrate the system’s benefits:
- Centralized Monitoring: Continuous self-diagnosis and real-time alerts ensure proactive system management.
- Remote Management & Control: Operators can manage security systems from anywhere, with full control over doors, alarms, and more via a virtual console accessible from smartphones, tablets, or PCs.
- Advanced Data Protection: Security is ensured through AES256 encryption, SSL protocols, and multi-layered authentication systems.
- Seamless Integration: The system can be integrated with third-party devices or PSIM (physical security information management), ensuring flexibility and scalability for large, complex environments like airports.
Why should airports consider implementing CoMETA?
CoMETA is a robust, future-ready system that addresses the growing demand for automated building and security management. Its focus on security, efficiency, and real-time control makes it a perfect fit for airport environments, where safety, seamless access, and centralized monitoring are essential. CoMETA can be integrated into an airport’s Operational Centres, where the control system can interact with other operational systems.
As public infrastructure like airports increasingly integrates Industry 4.0 technologies, FAAC continues to lead the way in delivering innovative, reliable, and scalable solutions for the future of building management. Moreover, FAAC supports airports in complying with the EU’s EPBD4 directive, which must be implemented by 2026. This directive sets objectives for reducing emissions and improving the energy efficiency of buildings, supported by both technical and financial measures.
