Carlo Mearelli has taken office as Extraordinary Commissioner of ENAC, the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, following his appointment by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini.
Mearelli officially assumed his new role on 11 August 2026. For the duration of his mandate, he will exercise the powers of the President for the ordinary administration of ENAC, ensuring continuity in the Authority’s activities and the regular performance of its institutional responsibilities.
His appointment follows the conclusion of Pierluigi Di Palma’s mandate as President of ENAC. Mearelli’s term as Extraordinary Commissioner is initially set for six months, with the possibility of an extension, and will end upon the appointment and installation of a new President.
Commenting on his appointment, Mearelli highlighted ENAC’s strategic importance for both Italian air transport and the country’s wider economic development. He underlined his intention to ensure continuity and effectiveness in the Authority’s work while contributing to strengthening civil aviation as a driver of development and competitiveness.
Mearelli brings extensive experience across aviation, logistics and infrastructure. During his career, he has held positions at Alitalia, the Transport Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and ANAS. He also served as CEO of Malpensa Logistica Europa, held senior management positions within the BCube Group, and subsequently became President of FICT. He is also a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
Outgoing President Pierluigi Di Palma thanked the ENAC organisation for its work during his mandate and wished Mearelli success in his new role.
