Air Tech Italy recently spoke with AEC Illuminazione’s Simone Zoani to get to know our newest member, a specialist in public lighting. The objective was to better understand the company, its focus, and why the airport segment is so important for them.
Can you introduce yourself, your role, and share some background on your company?
I am Simone Zoani, Export Sales Manager and responsible for the airport business within AEC. I manage our various sales partners across Europe and oversee projects focused on outdoor environments.
Since 1957, the company has built a strong international reputation in public lighting. Milan, Berlin, London, Oslo, Auckland, and Dubai are just some of the prestigious cities illuminated by AEC Illuminazione. Today, the company stands as a strong example of Italian industrial excellence, recognized and appreciated worldwide.
Our corporate philosophy, based on the concept of a “Total Quality System,” integrates all elements related to design and production at our Italian headquarters -from research and development to product design, industrialization, and distribution. We have made substantial investments in next-generation machinery, state-of-the-art laboratories, and advanced automation processes for the production of our lighting solutions. This positions AEC as a distinctive and leading player in the sector.

How does your company support airports?
Airports are key infrastructure supporting the development of any country. They are also closely connected to intermodal transportation systems, including highways, railways, and metro networks, all contributing to an enhanced traveler experience and seamless connectivity.
From the moment you drive to the airport to the moment you board your flight, lighting plays a crucial role in shaping the passenger journey. It ensures optimal visibility on access roads, safe and well-lit parking areas, and contributes to the ambiance through architectural lighting of façades and terminal interiors -right up to the final steps before boarding.
AEC collaborates with engineering firms, consultants, and airports to deliver complete and innovative lighting solutions.
What do you see as the key trends in your line of business?
Lighting is continuously evolving, with customers increasingly seeking customized solutions tailored to their specific needs. Lighting must integrate seamlessly into its environment, offering architects, planners, and landscape designers the flexibility to express their vision.
Key trends include higher quality lighting to reduce glare, dynamic lighting that adapts to weather conditions and seasons, and the use of colors and effects to enhance façades and public spaces. At the same time, there is a strong focus on improving energy efficiency.
AEC has been innovating since 1957, and one of our latest developments is our grazing lighting solutions, which combine design, safety, and greater creative freedom in shaping spaces.

Where can we find AEC Illuminazione in the coming months?
We are showcasing our solutions at various international lighting-focused events. Since joining Air Tech Italy, we have also been actively participating in the association’s key events, including the Global Airports Forum in Saudi Arabia, Passenger Terminal Expo in London, the Airport Show in Dubai, and many others.
With a legacy dating back to 1957, we remain committed to supporting planners, consultants, and airports in building the airports of the future.
